Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra Tipped With UFS 5.0 Storage & Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro - Desktop-Level Speed Coming in 2027?

Samsung's next flagship may be its biggest performance jump yet. According to a fresh tip from well-known South Korean leaker Lanzuk (yeux1122), the Galaxy S27 Ultra is reportedly being planned with UFS 5.0 flash storage - a first for any mainstream smartphone.

If this holds true, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could deliver sequential read/write speeds of up to 10.8 GB/s, nearly double the 5.8 GB/s ceiling of UFS 4.0 found in the current Galaxy S26 series. That puts it in the same territory as PCIe Gen 5 desktop SSDs.

Why does this matter? Faster app launches, smoother 8K video recording, quicker file transfers, and significantly better on-device AI performance - think real-time photo editing and generative AI features running without lag.

Reports suggest UFS 5.0 won't reach every model, though. Due to rising memory costs and supply constraints, Samsung is said to be reserving the upgrade for premium variants only - the S27 Ultra and the rumored new Galaxy S27 Pro. The base S27 and S27+ are expected to continue with UFS 4.0 or a minor 4.1 bump. Storage tiers remain unchanged, with the Ultra starting at 256GB.

Processor & RAM: The Full Picture

The storage upgrade pairs with another major rumoured change. Multiple reports point to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro - a custom variant built on a 2nm process - powering the S27 Ultra. Paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR6 RAM (a first for Galaxy S-series), this combination is what's fueling talk of "desktop-level mobile performance."

How Does It Stack Up Against iPhone 18?

While Samsung is pushing storage and raw processing power, Apple is reportedly taking a different approach with the iPhone 18 Pro. Recent reports confirm that Apple's variable aperture camera system has entered mass production, focusing heavily on computational photography and hardware-level camera innovation. The 2027 flagship battle is shaping up to be Samsung's speed vs Apple's camera - and buyers will have a tough choice.

When Is It Launching?

Samsung typically unveils its S-series flagships in January or February. That puts the Galaxy S27 Ultra launch window around early 2027. Nothing is official yet, and Samsung could adjust plans based on costs and component availability.
